To be somewhere in Greece (Hellas Republic)

To be somewhere in Greece (Hellas Republic).

Mtro. José Andrés Camino de Villa.

Aegina, Poros and Hydra…   three islands in The Aegean Sea. In principle, they are similar, however; each place has its own history and spirit. I remember Nectarios Monastery in Aegina, “The recipe of love” in Poros, as well as Venetian buildings in Hydra…

Also, when I was at the latest referred island, Hydra, I felt a sensation to have arrived to the “End of the World”, when someone turns the view from its highest point. Since then, a Panoramic view of The Aegean Sean at the horizon can be appreciated. Maybe, Columbus could have felt the same sensation of fullness/emptiness when he viewed the first surface of the “New Continent”; nowadays called: “The Americas”.

At the point to turning back to the Continent, The Peloponesus Peninsula can be highlighted at the left side of the ship and three hours later; I have started feeling the sensation about “The End of the beginnings” while we were approximating to “The Piraeus”, the Port of Athens. How Odiseus was feeling and which kind of thoughts could be having at the moment of his coming back to Ithaka?, I reflected.

Then, in Athens –one day before-, I was in the subway: just looking modern Greeks. What can I tell you about them? They look –not too very- Western people, with a tiny Oriental (Eastern) Profile, with an apparent self-pride but introverted in the very inside of their souls. My reflection: when someone visit Greece, it can be stated to be in the intersection of Europe and the Middle East, where Mediterranean culture/civilisation can exactly combine Earth, Water and Air…   what about fire? I didn’t found them, however, I suppose that only in-depth spirits can discover it in the very inside of the soul of each Greek we can know…   maybe another trip should be done in order to discover, where fire is located…

Afterwards; there are noon. A walk to The Acropolis (with The Parthenon included) have to be included. In "The Acropolis Museum", it could not to be forgotten to buy some History books and Postcards. Then, I turned to Syntagma Square to just remember how people demand a better way of life to Local and European authorities. This square should be loved, not only because it is a beautiful place to have a walk and to take a rest, but also because this is a place were collective spirits meet to turn into reality their dreams. The same thing can be said about "The Kapodistrias University"…

Just arriving into Omonia Square; as a prudent traveller, I decided to come back. Then; "The National Park" is a typical 19th Century place to admire nature and to refresh after a sunny day. Finally, “The Panathinaikos Stadium” is at the end of the day. A good place to remember The Olympic Games as well as to remembering the end of the Battle of Marathon (490 B.C.). A sensation of victory can be felt after to have finished “42 km. of battle/competition”. Also, we cannot forget a Panoramic view of The Parthenon during the sunshine.

At last, but not at least, it is suggested to visit “Plaka” neighbourhood and to eat a “souvlaki” as dinner. In between, it is possible to know and to enjoy having (another) walk along Evangelos Venizelos and Andrea Syngrou Av…  The most important Avenues in Athens!

At night and after to taste a Skouras glass of wine, it was time to fall asleep…    When I woke up in the morning, it was a “normal day” in Mexico City. I thought I was dreaming that I was traveling in Greece, nevertheless; I remembered two Greek words: “Perasti” (?) and “Mavroburna” (Montenegro). Thus, I was not dreaming: I was in Greece.

Mexico City, May 2016.
